Type 4 CNG Cylinder
Four types of cylinders exist in the market for HPV for storage of CNG and Hydrogen :
- Type 1: The traditional steel cylinder
- Type 2: Steel cylinder with composite reinforcement
- Type 3: Composite cylinder with metal liner
- Type 4: Composite cylinder with polymer liner
Highlights of Type 4 cylinders
- Type 4 Composite Cylinders are typically around 70% of weight reduction over Type 1 and 2 Steel cylinders
- And 25% to 35% weight reduction over Type 3 Aluminum liner based cylinders because of presence of light weight HDPE LINER
- Extensive CARBON FIBRE coating ensures higher heat resistance
- Bonfire test ensures no explosion in event of fire with controlled discharge of gas through cylinder safety values
- Additional Glass Fiber coating for UV protection and longer cylinder life
- HDPE liner ensures ZERO FATIGUE and ZERO corrosion as compared to other type of cylinders
- Type 4 cylinders have higher Class pressure withstanding capacity when compared with Type 3 cylinders
Tests revealed
- Type 4 Cylinders demonstrated better class temperature performance over Type 3 cylinders
- Rigorous In house Burst Test on Type 4 Cylinders at manufacturing time ensures water tight QAP
- No splinters in case of Type 4 cylinder burst due to excess pressure unlike other metal liner based type 1,2 ,3 cylinders
- Estimated Filling Cycle per Type 4 HPV is 750 ╴1000 per year for estimated 20 years life span
